Dr. Saad Saad

Dr. Saad is a distinguished, very prosperous, and contemporary pediatric surgeon who, after 47 years in the field, has finally decided to retire. He does not leave us in the dark, however. In an interview, he imparts a couple of life lessons that are well worth the read. He also leaves behind a tradition of modernization, endurance, and benefit. So what was his original motivation for becoming a pediatric surgeon? His answer may take you by surprise, but it just goes to show that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

His first life lesson is: “Don’t accept anything but the success you seek.” While he was of the high school age, Dr.Saad and his brother were walking around Kuwait when they came to a construction site. While there, the summer heat became very strong, as it often does in Kuwait, and it began to affect him, badly. Before long the heat had gotten so bad that he began to feel sick an then subsequently fainted. After he regained consciousness, he realized that he had fallen victim to a heat stroke and that he was not well suited to working or doing hard labor in the heat. The only thing is, there is only one place in Kuwait that always has air conditioning, and that is an operating room. That is right, Dr.Saad became a pediatric surgeon so he did not have to work out in the heat. This is the quintessential example of knowing what you want, putting your mind to achieving it, and working hard to obtain your goal. The way hhe sees it, “If a poor Palestinian refugee can make it and be successful in America, you can too!”

After that, he explains another life lesson: “Never wait until tomorrow to accomplish a task you can complete today.” Living by this rule granted Dr.Saad the opportunity to achieve a higher level of success. He made sure to get the most out of his time, he knew that having a strong work ethic would be the key to his success. When he came to the United States, he set his mind to becoming a board certified pediatric surgeon, and through abiding by his own rules and outlooks on life, he did just that. All in all, Dr. Saad was a very successful pediatric surgeon who brought many things to the table of pediatric surgery and medicine.
